Sterling resident German Salinas, 29, had to be pulled from the water on Sunday, June 19 in the Difficult Run Stream in McLean near the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike, the Fairfax County Police Department announced.

Salinas' body was found a quarter-mile off the roadway on a nearby trail, officials said, he was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The initial investigation determined that Salinas was swimming in the stream that connects to the Potomac River prior to his death.

While swimming, Salinas became submerged underwater and did not resurface. Friends pulled him out of the water and attempted life-saving measures, according to police.

The death is being considered accidental, and no foul play was reported.

Officials said that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Salinas' death.
